Wedding photographers will tell you, first looks are AWESOME! They provide you with a really intimate moment you get to share with your partner and the images never disappoint. No matter who the couple is, you want it to be special, heartfelt and fun. Setting up an LGBTQ couple’s first look is no different. Just follow a few simple rules and you’ll find yourself with beautiful images you cant wait to post!
- Ask them what they’ve envisioned for a first look. Often times this will tell you exactly how to pose them.
- If they don’t have any idea, guide them through possible options. Say things like: “one of you could sneak up behind the other” or “once you’re ready, you can count down and turn around at the same time”. These questions will help guide your couple and let them decide what feels right for them.
- Let them know this can be a moment that they share alone or with their loved ones watching. With you photographing a short distance away, it will help give them the space to be themselves so you capture those authentic moments.
- Help them decide on the perfect spot. Suggest locations that match your style and ones you know will look beautiful in the images.
- Tell them which way to turn. You don’t want to miss that exact moment they see each other. Remember to keep your backgrounds in mind.
- Let them enjoy the moment! Don’t rush it and let them embrace their emotions while it’s happening.
